Humility is key to church planting. Questions are key to humility. This means that church planters, or those considering planting a church, should be great question askers. Here is a list of questions I ask and encourage church planters to ask.
How is God already at work in that community? How will you and the church join that work?
What are the prevailing attitudes people have about churches in the community?
What is the past history of church plants in that town? What attitudes has that contributed to?
What are the cracks in that community?
What gatekeepers can teach you about the community?
How will you gracefully enter that town/city/neighborhood?
How will you “make a scene” that will create kingdom curiosity in that area?
How will people know they are invited to join with what the church is doing?
What is the community proud of? What is the community ashamed of?
What is the self-esteem of the community? (Rate 1-10)
What does freedom feel like in this community? What does bondage feel like in this community?
What would your church uniquely bring that no other church in the area is currently bringing?
What 3 things will your church focus on? What things will you say “no” to?
