A few weeks back I threw out the challenge to take pictures of my new book Staying is the new Going in unique places. Some were funny like the shot on the toilet. Some were relaxing like the shot of the local meeting house. Some were even dangerous like the shot on the roof next to the swamp cooler.
I have to say all the entries were amazing! The creativity was better than I imagined, and people had a lot of fun with this. While it was tough to choose the winners these folks rose to the top for different reasons.
“Deepest rooted” Emma Goad
Emma took several great shots at her grandparents farm in Zenith, Kansas. She wrote this about the farm: “This farm has been in my family for over 100 years. My great grandpa and grandpa have plowed and seeded these lands and provided food for more than we’ll every know. The most important seeds that they’ve sown are the ones in us, their family”.
“Closest to (my) home” Trish & Graham Prouty
Graham and Trish wisely took this shot on the corner across from my house. On this corner we have been doing “Free Coffee Friday” for the last four years. We added this bench as a spot to stop and chat with neighbors or school parents. Well played guys!
“Most disrespectful” My dad, Dave Briggs
While he had previously tried various sleep aids for his afternoon nap by the pool in Arizona nothing quite did the trick like my book. You’re welcome dad. Sorry for your sunburn.
“Most pristine” Matt Heer
You simply can’t beat this shot for views. Crashing waves on a clear California day. This shot is ridiculous. Matt is learning SoCal culture and seeking to put down roots. Notice the pebble he used to to hold down the pages. Well done Matt, all around epic.
“Best seasonal shot” Sandy Benson
Sandy went on a photo shoot taking the book all over the mountains near Breckenridge, Colorado. While all the shots were great, this one captures the emotions of a crisp fall day at 10,000 feet with the changing aspen trees. While places can equate to the feeling of home seasons can also do this.
“Toughest shot” Jennifer Swan
Jennifer submitted two shots with her kids “reading”the book at Catamount Reservoir on a perfect day. She lives her with her family, so this is literally her home. She gets mad props for having the kids pose for the perfect shot with the book. That’s not easy to do!
“Best perspective” Anna Trivits
Anna and her family recently moved to Delaware. This picture shows home and ministry; two things they care deeply about and want to commit themselves to. It is hard to capture the feeling of home in just one picture, so why not put two shots together? Nice work Anna!
These winners will receive a copy of the book that I will send to a friend or relative of their choice and locally roasted coffee beans (or locally mixed tea for those who haven’t seen the light yet). Thanks to all those who participated!
